Calibration & Optimization Engineer

Scania is undergoing a transformation from being a leading supplier of trucks, buses, and engines to providing complete and sustainable transport solutions. Together with TRATON and our sister brands MAN, Volkswagen Truck & Bus, and International, we are working to shape the future of mobility with innovative and environmentally conscious solutions. Our values – customer first, respect, team spirit, responsibility, and elimination of waste – are at the heart of everything we do. Together, we are at the forefront of creating a sustainable future.

Role Summary

The base engine diesel calibration engineer focuses on optimizing engine performance for the off highway segment i.e Genset, Industrial and Marine. This role ensures engines meet stringent emissions standards while delivering power and optimizing fuel consumption under various operating conditions.

You will mainly work with Scania’s own engine control system, focusing on base engine calibration, results analysis and product support for the sales and aftermarket organization. The work is carried out mostly in the test cells in-house with opportunities to work on customer machines.

Job Responsibilities

Develop ECU calibration for Diesel engine to optimize performance, fuel efficiency and emissions.
Calibrate key engine functions such as air and fuel management, injection, torque control and more.
Conduct real world testing to guarantee calibration quality, robustness and compliance with regulations.
Analyze test data using calibration and measurement tools like INCA, MATLAB and Concerto.
Prepare technical reports as requested to show progress and results achieved.
Act as reference for other functions [Design, software, test operations] for calibration activities on control system of engines.
Collaborate with cross functional team like design, test operations and certification to support engine development projects.

Who You Are

To thrive in this role, you bring several years of experience in engine calibration—ideally within heavy-duty diesel engines—along with a foundational understanding of aftertreatment calibration. You enjoy working hands-on with engine control functions such as fuel management, torque control, and emissions, and you are comfortable both in engine test benches and real-world testing environments.

You approach challenges with a curious and analytical mindset, using troubleshooting and performance optimization as opportunities to learn and improve. Collaboration comes naturally to you, and your positive attitude, initiative, and clear communication help you build strong relationships across different teams.

You hold a technical degree or have developed equivalent expertise through practical experience. We value potential as much as experience, and you don’t need to meet every requirement from day one—our team is committed to supporting your development and helping you grow into the role.

This Is Us

Our team develops and optimizes calibration for industrial and marine applications throughout the full product lifecycle. Within performance and testing, we calibrate engines to achieve optimal output—balancing power, fuel efficiency and emissions compliance (e.g., EU Stage V, IMO III) along with aftertreatment integration in close contact with the customer.

The team consists of base engine, after treatment and OBD calibration engineers. We collaborate in a dynamic learning environment, tackling challenges together and supporting one another to achieve success. The team prioritizes continuous improvement by embracing new practises for faster calibration, with a strong focus on inclusion, diversity and fostering open idea exchange.

As a manager, I foster collaboration in high stakes environment while driving improvement and growth. I clearly set goals and transparently communicate developments to the team, creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels heard.
