Role Summary
Scania is taking autonomous transport from pilots to commercial deployment, and we do it together with autonomy partners rather than by building the full technology stack ourselves. Scania owns the customer relationship and the definition of what the solution must be, and partners bring the driving technology.
As Head of Product & Technology you own what the autonomous solution must be. The role is externally focused by design, built around customers and autonomy partners rather than internal engineering. You own the product definition, the requirements that partners must meet, and the acceptance bar that says a solution is good enough to deploy. In practice you act as the bridge between customer reality and the partner stacks that build against it.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop a deep understanding of customer operations, use cases, and customer TCO and TOE to define where the autonomous solution creates value.
- Own the autonomous product definition and the solution requirements baseline, covering functional, performance, safety, and scalability requirements, written as the specification partners must meet rather than an internal build list.
- Own the technical partner integration strategy and decide which partners can technically deliver the solution and how their stacks integrate.
- Own the acceptance and maturity bar, including the definition of demo-ready versus production-ready.
- Own the customer-facing solution roadmap.
- Define deployment-ready reference architectures and lead technical readiness reviews for customer deployments.
- Own end-to-end traceability from requirements to validation evidence, and hand that evidence to Safety for the safety case.
- Secure scalability across multiple autonomy partners and operational design domains (ODDs).
- Line-manage the Safety Manager while preserving safety independence, so that a safety no-go can be raised to the Managing Director without passing through this role.
- Maintain the technical interface to TRATON Group Product Management and Group R&D.
Who You Are
We believe you are externally oriented and comfortable working in the space between customer reality and partner technology, and you can hold a firm technical line without owning the engineering yourself. You likely bring:
- 10+ years in product management, systems engineering, autonomous systems, or technical leadership in complex environments.
- Proven experience translating customer, market, and stakeholder needs into clear, traceable solution requirements.
- Strong understanding of autonomous systems, connected services, or industrial digital solutions.
- Experience selecting and managing third-party technology partners and integrating their stacks.
- Ability to define a value proposition tied to solution functionality and feature maturity.
- Strong experience with verification and validation governance.
- Experience from live operational deployment environments.
- Understanding of functional safety principles (ISO 26262, SOTIF) and cybersecurity requirements.
- Master's degree in Engineering.
