Master thesis at Traton PMO- Improving project portfolio synchronization
Introduction
Thesis work is an excellent way to get closer to Scania and build relationships for the future. Many of today's employees began their Scania career with their degree project.
Background
TRATON is one of the world’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, bringing together the Scania, MAN, International, and Volkswagen Truck & Bus brands to develop sustainable transport solutions.
TRATON Group R&D has brought together research and development expertise from across the brands to coordinate technologies, share solutions, and strengthen collaboration on the Group's future vehicles and transport solutions.
TRATON's Program Management Domain (Group PMO), with around 100 project managers in different locations around the world, is responsible for running TRATON Group programs and projects involving several thousand employees, both from R&D and other cross-functional areas.
We are a strong multicultural team with diverse backgrounds and experience, united by an interest in project and portfolio management. Our work involves coordinating cross-functional stakeholders, balancing technical requirements, and supporting effective planning, prioritization, and decision-making across complex programs. We strive to create a way of working that is inclusive, positive, and supportive.
With us, you will gain first-hand insight into the work of a program management office while completing your thesis at a world-leading company that is driving the transition toward a sustainable future. Over 20 weeks of thesis work, you will be able to broaden your knowledge of project and portfolio management, apply your analytical skills to a practical challenge, and gain experience of working in an international R&D environment.
Objective
The thesis will build on documentation from projects whose planned introduction dates have changed. First, you will conduct a structured analysis to identify, categorize, and assess the most common reasons for these changes. Based on the findings, you will deepen the analysis of either a specific cause or a selected project with particularly significant schedule consequences.
Proposed research question:
What are the main reasons for changes in planned introduction dates in selected projects within the TRATON R&D portfolio, and how can the findings inform improvements in portfolio planning and synchronization, and decision-making?
