Manager - Mechanical Engineering

Role Summary

Manage a team of mechanical engineers to design, develop, and test mechanical systems and components for industrial or consumer applications. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including RandD, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to ensure project success. Develop and oversee the execution of project plans, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Hire, train, and mentor team members to support their career development and maximize their performance. Develop and implement process control and implementation strategies to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and guidelines.

Job Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

Communicate the actions needed to implement the function's strategy and business plan within the team; explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision, and values; motivate people to commit to these and to do extraordinary things to achieve local business goals.

Project Management

Deliver small- or medium-scale projects while working within an established program management plan.

Engineering Solutions Design

Contribute to the design of engineering solutions; design the feasibility testing approach and supervise its implementation to support the development and validation of engineering solutions.

Engineering Standards Specification

Contribute to the analysis of information, the drafting of engineering standards and specifications, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of those standards within own engineering discipline to inform engineering work in the organization and/or of its suppliers, contractors, and consultants.

Process Design Engineering

Contribute to the analysis of information and the specification of the methods and process steps, as well as the plant, machinery, and equipment, required to design and continuously improve manufacturing or materials processes and process systems to deliver the end product within specified cost and quality parameters.

Budgeting

Deliver a budget for an area of the organization or conduct complex analyses on budget progress in other areas of the organization.

Performance Management

Develop and propose own performance objectives; take appropriate actions to ensure achievement of agreed objectives, using the organization's performance management systems to improve personal performance. Or manage and report on team performance; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports or project/account team members and hold people accountable for achieving them, taking appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of team/personal objectives.

Functional Strategy Formation

Contribute to the formation of one or more elements of functional strategy through specialist expertise and insights, to ensure that the strategy meets business needs.

Multiagency Work

Partner and build collaborative working relationships with other professional teams and over organizational boundaries to ensure service users experience cohesive and seamless support to meet their needs.

Organizational Capability Building

Use the organization's formal development framework to identify the team's individual development needs. Plan and implement actions to build their capabilities. Provide training or coaching to others throughout the organization in own area of expertise to enable others to improve performance and fulfill personal potential.
