30 hp - Simulation and Testing of a Conditioning System for Powertrain Testing

Thesis work is an excellent way to get closer to Scania and build relationships for the future. Many of today's employees began their Scania career with their degree project.

Background:
Our department designs and develops supporting systems for test rigs. We have several process systems, One such system conditions oil or glycol for rotating test objects, with temperature regulation achieved through heat exchangers, that we currently aim to optimize using simulation based flow analysis.
Recently, our department acquired a commercial software called FluidFlow to model and simulate such conditioning systems. In this master thesis project, the software’s performance will be validated against real-world test data with ultimate goal to offer insights into its potential for ongoing optimization efforts.

Objective:
The objective of this assignment is to use modeling to optimize the performance of oil or glycol conditioning system used in Powertrain testing. This will be achieved by:
•    Conducting system tests and collecting relevant data to assess the system's current performance.
•    Developing a simulation model of the fluid flow and thermal processes within the system using the FluidFlow commercial software.
•    Validating the simulation model against real-world test data to ensure its accuracy and reliability.
•    Providing documentation and recommendations on how to effectively use the software for system analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:
•    MSc student in Mechanical-, Chemical-Engineering, or related fields.
•    Knowledge of Fluid Flow Mechanics.
•    Familiarity with modeling and simulation in either 1D or 3D environments.
