30hp Thesis - Investigate the Profitability of a New Cable Harness Design

A thesis work at Scania is an excellent way to make connections and expand your network for your future career. Many of our employees started their careers with a thesis project here at Scania. This thesis project will give you the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in trucks, electrical systems, production, and purchasing, but especially about Scania.

Background:
Special Vehicles is a part of Scania. We work with small volumes and short time to market, so the lead time for newly designed cable harnesses is critical in terms of both time and cost. The lead time for newly designed cable harnesses is long and has a high cost.

Target Image:
When the thesis work is completed, we should have a clear and visible picture of how Scania is affected if we choose to assemble cable harnesses with excess length, both in terms of cost and time.

Assignment:
•    How is production affected if we choose to use cable harnesses with some excess length?
•    Where is the breakpoint when it starts to affect the lead time?
•    Where is the breakpoint between PPAP cost, volume, and the higher part cost when we choose to go with extra length?
•    Analyze where the different costs arise and how they are distributed on a cable harness.
•    How is the environment affected when we choose to use more material than necessary?

Education:

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Economics, Production Technology or similar.
• Number of students: 2 B.Sc. or 1 M.Sc.
• Start date: February 2025
• Estimated time: 10 or 20 weeks
