Data Scientist - Smart Factory Lab
Scania is undergoing a transformation from being a leading supplier of trucks, buses, and engines to providing complete and sustainable transport solutions. Together with TRATON and our sister brands MAN, Volkswagen Truck & Bus, and International, we are working to shape the future of mobility with innovative and environmentally conscious solutions.
Our values – customer first, respect, team spirit, responsibility, and elimination of waste – are at the heart of everything we do. Together, we are at the forefront of creating a sustainable future.
Role Summary
Lead the way in digital transformation at Scania’s Smart Factory Lab! We are an innovation-driven team focusing on automation and digitalization to enhance production and logistics globally. We are now looking for an engaged, collaborative and solution-oriented Data Scientist to build and deploy data-driven solutions using analytics and AI that improve production and logistics performance. As AI and data become increasingly embedded in production and logistics, this role plays a key part in shaping how Scania scales these capabilities responsibly and effectively.
Job Responsibilities
In this role, you will work hands-on with data while also acting as a trusted advisor and technical leader. You’ll be part of a team of data engineers, data scientists, developers and project managers.
You will:
- Collaborate closely with Production & Logistics, IT, and other stakeholders to identify high-value use cases and translate business needs into data-driven and AI-enabled solutions
- Design, develop, and pilot advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI/LLM-based solutions (e.g. decision support, optimization, predictive models, copilots, and intelligent automation)
- Explore and apply generative AI and large language models (LLMs) in industrial contexts, including experimentation, evaluation, and responsible adoption
- Work with modern data platforms and cloud ecosystems (e.g. Snowflake, AWS) to access, model, and analyse large and complex datasets
- Design solutions with end-to-end lifecycle thinking, including deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement using MLOps and LLMOps practices
- Lead and facilitate workshops, demos, and knowledge-sharing sessions to increase data and AI literacy across the organization
- Act as a technical expert in projects and discussions, coaching colleagues and supporting best practices within data science and analytics
- Create clear and engaging visualizations, dashboards, and storytelling material to support fact-based decisions
- Represent Smart Factory Lab by showcasing solutions and insights to internal communities, and visitors – internal and external.
Who You Are
- An MSc or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
- Strong programming skills in Python (required), with experience in common ML frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn)
- Experience in developing data-driven and AI solutions end-to-end, from exploration to production
- Experience with Generative AI, LLMs, and LLMOps, including experimentation and responsible deployment
- Experience with MLOps practices, including versioning, CI/CD, deployment, and monitoring
- Experience with modern data platforms and cloud environments, preferably Snowflake and AWS
- Solid skills in data modeling, analytics, and visualization, with the ability to communicate insights clearly
- Interest in production, logistics, or industrial environments
- Ability to balance experimentation with robustness and operational needs
Languages: English required; Swedish is a plus.
We value practical experience and potential over exact years of experience.
