Design Engineer at Cab Development

Are you our new Design Engineer at cab development R&D in Södertälje?

Scania is now undergoing a transformation from being a supplier of trucks, buses and engines to a supplier of complete and sustainable transportation solutions. In this position as a design engineer focusing on cab items, you will gain insight into many different parts of the cab and its components. You will work in a flexible work environment where you have the opportunity to build a wide network of contacts. 

Your Role

You will be the responsible designer for localization of several cab-related parts in our future production in China. Work means, among other things, that you need to map different areas of articles to ensure that the right variants are included in the scope. Ensure that the right documentation is available to send out to possible suppliers in China, and if documentation is missing, you will create neutral specification in consultation with the responsible design group and other cross functions.

You will plan your activities on a daily and weekly basis as well as planning 10 weeks ahead together with the team at our sprint planning. You are expected to plan and run your activities independently, with support from the team and manager. There are great opportunities to take initiatives, improve and create ways of working which opens up for creativity and new ways. You coordinate component and functional tests together with the assignment leaders, test engineers and other cross-functions to ensure a qualitative introduction by testing and verifying our solutions.
We work with many of the parts on the cab, which means that you have an opportunity to create a broad competence about both the cab and various materials (steel, aluminum, plastics, colors, surface treatments, etc.) 

The role includes tasks such as:

  • Representing R&D on technical issues in cross-functional meetings 
  • Follow up and request information 
  • Be outreach and solution focused
  • Compile facts for decisions
  • Documentation and planning in FRAS and own planning together with the assignment leader in excel.


You will have the opportunity to make contacts with people in many areas of Scania as well as our suppliers, which is an excellent basis for further development within Scania. An opportunity to gain a broad product knowledge within the cab.  The group to which you will belong, ERCRS, consists of assignment leaders and designers. The group is responsible for leading the introduction of cab-related parts in our future production in China and you will be part of this journey.

Your Profile

Important qualities for the role are: structured, analytical and easy to build networks. The work can sometimes involve a higher workload where the ability to prioritize is important but also your own planning. You are flexible and can easily adapt when conditions change within the project. You take personal responsibility and understand how your role affects the big picture.

As you will have a broad international network of contacts, you need to be able to express yourself fluently in speech and writing, both in Swedish and English. Previous experience from project management/project management is an advantage. 
We are looking for you with a university education with a technical focus. You have a genuine interest in technology, design and preferably experience in product development processes. You are driven, curious and have the ability to familiarize yourself with new tasks. If you also have experience from the automotive industry in development or production, this is of course a merit, but even newly graduated applicants are warmly welcome!
