Function and Software Developer - Fuel System Control

Scania is undergoing a transformation from being a leading supplier of trucks, buses, and engines to providing complete and sustainable transport solutions. Together with TRATON and our sister brands MAN, Volkswagen Truck & Bus, and International, we are working to shape the future of mobility with innovative and environmentally conscious solutions. Our values – customer first, respect, team spirit, responsibility, and elimination of waste – are at the heart of everything we do. Together, we are at the forefront of creating a sustainable future.

Role Summary

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to grow and contribute to meaningful work? Do you enjoy being the first point of contact in a team, helping colleagues by answering questions and troubleshooting? Join a collaborative and supportive team dedicated to function development, working together to enhance the world’s best powertrain and engine technology.

We are at an inspiring stage—after extensive development, we have successfully launched new engine projects. Now, we are looking ahead at how we can play a vital role in achieving Scania’s sustainability goals for 2030. This journey calls for creativity, teamwork, and a forward-thinking mindset.

Job Responsibilities

In this role, you will be the go-to person in the team, answering questions and assisting colleagues with troubleshooting and testing in fuel rigs, engine test cells, and trucks. You will be part of a team that designs and develops new control strategies and functions within fuel system control, including fuel injection and delivery systems. You will have the opportunity to implement, test, document, and verify these functions to enhance engine performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions reduction.

You will be involved in the full development process, from defining requirements to validation, gaining a deep technical understanding along the way. Testing is conducted in Södertälje, as well as in Spain and Northern Sweden during annual climate tests.

Who you are

We are looking for a collaborative and dedicated engineer (M.Sc. or equivalent) with knowledge of heavy vehicles, system development, or software development for embedded systems. We welcome candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Embedded systems programming.
  • Programming and modeling.
  • Working with tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and C programming.

As a person, you are approachable, communicative, and enjoy helping others by being the first point of contact for questions and troubleshooting. You thrive in a team-oriented environment where collaboration is key, and you enjoy making connections beyond your immediate team. If you have experience with statistical data analysis, you likely find satisfaction in uncovering patterns where others see complexity. You are adaptable and comfortable working on both ongoing customer adaptations and large-scale future projects.

A driver’s license (B) and fluency in English, both spoken and written, are required. If you do not already have a truck driver’s license, we offer the opportunity to obtain one.

Most importantly, you have a passion for learning, supporting your team, and contributing to meaningful innovations.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds – your unique experience and perspectives is valuable to us.

This is Us

The Fuel System Control group is responsible for developing core functionality for fuel supply, injection control, and fuel efficiency optimization. Our work ensures precise fuel delivery, enhances combustion, and supports the transition to alternative and renewable fuels. By working together, we directly contribute to performance, emissions reduction, and fuel efficiency improvements in both traditional and hybrid powertrains.

We focus on control and diagnostics of the fuel system in Traton’s powertrains and engine projects. Additionally, we actively support environmental sustainability by improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions. Even small advancements in fuel consumption contribute significantly to lowering greenhouse gases when applied to a large fleet of trucks. Our mission is to create innovative solutions that foster a more sustainable transport system.

Scania Offers

We offer a dynamic, flexible workplace with hybrid work options, including Scania Sergel and Midway hubs. With a structured development plan and courses, Scania supports your career growth both locally and internationally.
