Master Thesis - 30 hp -IEPC CO2 data influence on VECTO simulation

Introduction
Thesis work is an excellent way to get closer to Scania and build relationships for the future. Many of today's employees began their Scania career with their degree project.

Background
European Union has implemented a CO2 / FC regulation for heavy duty trucks and busses, they have also developed a simulation tool, VECTO (Vehicle Energy Consumption Calculation Tool) which will be used for mandatory CO2 certification of heavy-duty vehicles within EU.

Objective
The goal is to investigate the influence of different settings in CO2 certification of e-propulsion drivelines (IEPC) on the VECTO simulation results for  typical SCANIA trucks together with a literature study.

Job Description
The purpose of this work is to perform a literature study of the VECTO tool and the CO2 regulation Annex Xb for IEPC, and how it is applied and used at Scania R&D.
An evaluation of CO2 results and its impact on the equivalent CO2 losses in the VECTO simulations for typical BEV truck configurations is to be performed together with a Investigation of different input to the VECTO simulation, such as:

  • CO2 test vs standard values
  • Impact of torque and speed steps in the EPMC map.
  • Impact of SOC levels and Vmin/Vmax voltage level
  • Definition of typical truck configurations for long haulage, regional delivery.

Education/program/focus
Mechanical/civil/aerospace engineering, technical physics, computer science. Programming skills are desired for better understanding and practice of VECTO.
Fluent in English, written and spoken.
The duration of the thesis work is expected to be between 20-25 weeks for 1 student, and will be carried out onsite at Scania’s R&D facilities in Södertälje, Sweden starting in January-February 2025.
