Senior Function Developer - Cruise Control and Energy Optimization Functions

Role Summary

This role is a part of TRATON Group R&D, located in Södertälje, Sweden.

We are looking for a senior Function Developer to join our Energy Efficiency team. You will develop advanced functions for energy optimization, such as smart cruise controllers and related functionality. Our purpose is to create vehicle functions that balance premium drivability with low energy consumption.

Job Responsibilities

• Identify and develop new functions to further optimize energy usage in TRATON’s trucks and buses.
• Implement and validate new ideas through testing in vehicles and simulation environments.
• Conduct vehicle tests both in real-world and simulated conditions.
• Take ownership of the full development cycle — from implementation and documentation to test development and evaluation.
  
  

Who You Are

For this role, we typically expect 5+ years of experience in embedded development or other relevant work in the automotive industry.

To be a good fit for this role, you should:

• Have a strong interest in the automotive industry and energy optimization functions.
• Hold a Master’s or PhD degree in a relevant engineering field.
• Have experience in embedded software development, preferably using MATLAB, Simulink and C.
• Ideally have skills in simulation and data analysis.
• Hold at least a driver’s license for passenger cars.

Within TRATON Group R&D, you are an important part of something bigger. Joining us means gaining access to the ins and outs of the entire transportation industry.

Our team consists of ten engineers divided into two sub-teams, and we are now expanding one of them. Everyone on the team holds a truck driver’s license, and most are experienced drivers. Our product is software, but understanding how our algorithms affect real-world driving is just as important as the implementation itself.

We perform extensive testing in simulation environments, but several times per year we also conduct field testing, such as summer and winter tests, to validate our complete functions in demanding conditions before delivering to customers.
