Thesis work: 30hp - Develop a data driven model for real time simulation
Thesis work is an excellent way to get closer to Traton and build relationships with industries for the future. Many of today's employees began their Scania/Traton career with their degree project.
Background:
With the increasing demand on virtual environments for software testing and prototyping, we must support and simulate more systems. Some of these systems are difficult to describe using conventional differential equations. In such cases, empirical or black-box models can be used instead.
One of the key challenges is ensuring that these data-driven models comply with the physical constraints and laws governing the underlying system being simulated.
Target:
The goal of this project is to explore data-driven model development for real time simulation of a provided dynamical system. The model should be designed to satisfy or enforce certain physical constraints, providing an empirical/theoretical analysis of the set of reachable outputs of the model.
Example assignments:
- Explore model structures that can be suitable for a specific dynamical system, i.e. different neural network architectures.
- Develop a method and analysis to construct a black-box model from available data, as well as implementing the model in MATLAB/Python.
- Compare data driven model with other approaches.
The exact thesis formation will be discussed before starting to better match the applicant’s interest and background.
Education:
MSc in Applied Mathematics or Engineering with specialization in Control Systems, Engineering Physics, Signal Processing or Computer Science. We also welcome applications from students in other MSc programs who have a demonstrated interest in data-driven modeling and simulation.
Number of students: 1-2.
Start date: January/February 2026.
Estimated time needed: 20-25 weeks.
