Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Job Responsibilities

Operating Machine or Equipment

Operate semi-complex equipment and machines, prioritizing routine tasks to improve efficiency and adjusting multiple related variables to resolve production problems.

Operations Management

Carry out operational tasks by following established processes. This will involve adjusting multiple settings or parameters to meet performance standards.

Equipment Installation

Carry out simple installation tasks, following detailed instructions and working under close supervision to complete the allocated tasks.

Equipment Maintenance and Repair

Carry out simple maintenance and repair tasks, following detailed instructions and working under close supervision to complete the allocated tasks.

Quality

Perform relatively simple quality sampling and inspection of products or processes (or both).

Health, Safety and Environment

Follow a range of mandatory work instructions (including use of personal protection equipment where relevant) to safeguard the environment and the wellbeing of oneself and others.

Operational Compliance

Follow a range of mandatory procedures to ensure that work is carried out to the required quality standards and/or to ensure adherence to external regulatory codes and internal codes of conduct.

Internal Communications

Create positive experiences for clients by interacting courteously with them.

Work Scheduling and Allocation

Organize own work schedule each day in line with changing priorities.

Personal Capability Building

Develop and maintain excellent procedural or technical skills by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching.
