Workshop Manager

Role Summary

The main responsibility of the Workshop Manager is to proactively develop and manage the workshop business and operations in order to maximize customer and employee satisfaction, as well as business performance contributing to the profitable growth of Scania. The Workshop Manager is responsible for the Workshop Business Process and the operation of the workshop and service reception.

The Workshop Manager to ensure the workshop is run with maximum efficiency and profitability by adapting capacity to demand and utilizing existing resources as efficiently as possible.The Workshop Manager also to ensures that customers have great confidence in the workshop through the provision of excellent service by managing employees and customer relationships.

Job Responsibilities

  • Build and develop customer relationships through the provision of excellent customer service, ensuring customer needs are being met, and services are developed to meet the future needs of the customer.
  • Lead and motivate the Workshop and Service Reception staff.
  • Recruit, develop and train staff to meet the demands of the business, ensure that all employees attend scheduled training at Head Office.
  • Ensure that you follow up on “WIP” at all times and that it is kept to an absolute minimum.
  • Ensure that monthly labour hour targets are met.
  • Supervise workshop staff, including monitoring of timekeeping and productivity, authorising overtime.
  • Oversee all Health and Safety regulations within the Workshop and Service Reception, ensuring safe work practices are adhered to, including maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness within the workshop.
  • Liaise with Parts department to ensure parts availability and ensure service exchange and warranty parts procedures are adhered to.
  • Provide technical support to the workshop and external customers.
  • Ensure the ongoing condition of workshop tools and equipment, arranging purchase, repair and calibration as required.
  • Ensure that the distribution of tasks and procedures are developed and adapted to relevant capacity requirements and employees’ abilities and ensure that employee satisfaction is maintained.
  • Promote and work with the Scania Dealer Operating Standards (DOS) to ensure uniform quality standards in all areas of the business. (Keep all DOS documentation up to date).
  • Drive the goal of achieving the set market plan for parts per hour sales.

Applicant must meet these minimum requirements:

  • Qualified Diesel Technician with Trade certificate
  • 5+ years technical workshop experience, of which experience in Supervising/Team Leader in a Workshop environment within the automotive industry, would be an added advantage.
  • Valid Heavy Vehicle license
  • SHE
  • Compliance with SRS, DOS Requirements
  • Computer literacy - MS Office, Scania systems
  • Medically fit
