Manager - Parts and Service (General)
Role Summary
The main responsibility of the Area Manager for Commercial Parts and Parts Logistics, is to assist with the development and growth of the parts business in conjunction with other areas in the business unit and thereby maximizing customer satisfaction.
The Area Manager for Commercial Parts and Parts Logistics ensures that the parts offering is continuously updated and developed to meet current and future customer needs to maximize customer uptime, efficiency and profitability. Area Manager for Commercial Parts and Parts Logistics is responsible to ensure that the discount and parts pricing are updated with the objective to ensure our competitiveness and the successful accomplishment of the short, medium and long term targets. This requires effective competitor analysis and frequent interaction with all regional management teams and their respective parts departments.
The Area Manager for Commercial Parts and Parts Logistics is also responsible for the operations of the South African Parts Centre (ZAPC). The Area Manager for Commercial Parts and Parts Logistics must ensure that the warehouse, as well as its inbound & outbound flows are run with maximum efficiency and to ensure that it meets customer demands and agreed targets. The Area Manager for Commercial Parts and Parts Logistics is also responsible for managing the customer relationship, ensuring that all customers and internal stakeholders have great confidence in the ZAPC operations and in the services offered
Job Responsibilities
Effective Parts Inventory, Operations and Logistic Management:
- Build and develop business unit relationships through the provision of excellent customer service, ensuring customer needs are being met and parts logistics are developed to meet the future needs of the business unit.
- Safeguard warehouse operations and its contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocol
- Maintain the physical condition of warehouse by recommending, planning and implementing new design layouts.
- Play a significant role in long-term planning, including initiatives geared towards operational and customer service excellence.
- Contribute to short and long-term organizational planning and strategy as a member of the Services management team.
- Responsible for the development and proposal of new systems and procedures as approved by management.
- Work in cooperation with other departments and business units to achieve common business objectives, ensuring that there is open and effective communication
- Responsible to communicate continuously with the Supply & Demand Chain departments within SPC (Scania Parts Logistics) in Belgium, regarding stock planning and customer service issues.
- Ensure that third-party supply chain partners meet agreed service levels. Through monitoring and managing these SLA’s
- Ensure that daily pulse meetings are conducted to identify deviations and ensure deviations are treated with short, as well as long-term corrective action through established improvement teams.
- Responsible for the monitoring of stock corrections and ensure that record is kept thereof with explanations and authorizations
- Responsible to ensure that daily cycle counts are completed and that all major variances are reported to management.
- Responsible to conduct annual stock take, with detailed reporting on any variances.
- Responsible for the reconciliation of core return credits from Belgium and follow up and report on discrepancies to Management
- Monitor, analyse and keep updated relevant figures for warehouse operations on a daily basis.
- Supervise ZAPC staff, including mentoring of relevant key figures and authorisation of all overtime.
- Lead and motivate the Parts and Warehouse staff
- Responsible to ensure that service levels are being adhere to on parts helpdesk.
- Ensure that the distribution of tasks and procedures are developed and adapted to relevant capacity requirements and employees’ abilities.
- Manage personnel requirements within ZAPC; including:
- recruitment of qualified employees
- on-going development and training for employees to meet the demands of the business
- conducting performance assessments
- Promote good communication with the warehouse and third party logistics company/s.
- Responsible for conducting weekly staff meetings ensuring feedback is provided to Management on critical issues which may have arisen.
- Carry out any ad-hoc duties as prescribed by management from time to time.
- Ensure waste and scrap disposal is performed timeously, efficiently and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Manage the Recycling process at the warehouse
- Oversee all Health and Safety regulations within ZAPC, ensuring safe work practices are adhered to, including maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness within the Warehouse and the ongoing condition of its equipment.
- Responsible for obtaining authorisation from Management before working any overtime.
- Prohibited from releasing any information regarding customers, suppliers and possible technical failures to any third parties.
- Responsible for tools and equipment allocated to you.

Develop and implement the Commercial Parts strategy in line with BU and Services strategy in Southern Africa:
- Connected to the Scania Services strategy, develop parts sales strategy, breaking it down for Regional Management, defining long, medium and short term parts target as well as ensuring implementation
- Assist the General Manager Services with Defining and implementing a pricing strategy and model with the aim to increase parts sales and increase overall profitability
- Responsible for Market and Business Plan development and implementation in the area of parts
- Continuously monitor and analyse relevant market and competitor developments, trends and activities, recommending suitable actions and solutions to the management team
- Analyse markets to identify gaps and improvement potentials through dealers and customers
- Ensure understanding and communication of the Parts sales potential, the gap to the actual level and required systematic parts sales to capture potential
- Ensures that the parts sales potential includes Scania and non-Scania parts
- Cooperates with other departments to achieve common business objectives, communicate defined strategies, ensuring that there is open and effective communication
- Encourage benchmarking and best practice sharing with other Business Units
Commercial Parts Management:
Run the Commercial Parts operations in a profitable and efficient way by enabling and engaging employees and optimizing the organization in order to enhance performance
- Promote and encourage a result and customer oriented mind-set
- Empower and motivate teams to reach targets
- Follow up parts business, financial performance and customer loyalty on regional and dealer level.
- Identify deviations and generate appropriate action plans
- Implement and develop parts sales initiatives
- Actively engage in team meetings
- Regularly interact with and visit dealers and workshops for development and follow up
- Regularly interact/visit customers
- Conduct and act upon P&D Talks, competence and performance management, succession planning and employee satisfaction surveys
- Monitor and ensure Customer and feedback is acted upon in conjunction with the relevant departments.
- Monitor and implement price changes regularly and when needed
- Ensure compliance with Scania standards, policies, local legislation and regulations for all Markets in Southern Africa
Manage the Commercial Parts Portfolio:
Define, develop, communicate and market the parts business, portfolio and commercial initiatives
- Create new solutions in line with customer needs, actively interacting and listening to the network
- Establish and maintain relations with other service providers to our customers while developing parts solutions for Non-Scania products
- Engage and Cooperate with other departments to develop the commercial parts portfolio
- Market and communicate Scania parts to existing and potential customers through various marketing channels and platforms as well as the Regional Dealer Network.
Systemize improvement work according to the Scania way (SRS):

Applicable process, standards and guidelines:
Desirable experience, skills & qualifications:
- Higher education or equivalent work experience
- Relevant business knowledge and experience in a similar role
- Experience with Customer interaction in the retail network
- Managerial and leadership experience preferably in the heavy vehicle industry
- Experience from a position with a number of direct reports.
- Fluent in English
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office
