Automation Engineer
Scania is undergoing a transformation from being a leading supplier of trucks, buses, and engines to providing complete and sustainable transport solutions. Together with TRATON and our sister brands MAN, Volkswagen Truck & Bus, and International, we are working to shape the future of mobility with innovative and environmentally conscious solutions.
Our values – customer first, respect, team spirit, responsibility, and elimination of waste – are at the heart of everything we do. Together, we are at the forefront of creating a sustainable future.
Role Summary
Join Scania’s Smart Factory Lab and help shape the future of industrial automation. We are an innovation-driven team working to improve production and logistics globally through automation and digitalization.
We are now looking for an Automation Engineer with a hands-on mindset, who enjoys working close to the shopfloor, identifying real challenges within production and logistics, and turning them into practical solutions through hands-on prototyping and testing in our lab environment.
Job Responsibilities
In this role, you act as a bridge between automation, IT, maintenance, and engineering. You work hands-on while contributing to long-term capability building within Smart Factory Lab and across our internal customer network.
You will:
- Design and implement automation solutions addressing real production and logistics challenges
- Work hands-on in the lab and on the shopfloor with robotics, PLCs, sensors, AGVs, and industrial equipment
- Drive technical initiatives from concept and prototyping to deployment
- Integrate automation solutions into broader system landscapes (SCADA, MES, ERP)
- Collaborate closely with SCADA, OT, maintenance, IT, engineering, and logistics teams
- Contribute to innovation initiatives such as flexible production, edge computing, and asset utilization
- Share learnings and results internally through demos, workshops, and knowledge-sharing formats
Who You Are
We believe you are curious, collaborative, and motivated by solving real industrial challenges. In addition, you likely have:
- A background in automation, mechatronics, industrial engineering, or similar
- Hands-on experience with control systems, system integration, and/or robotics · Strong PLC competence (e.g. structured text, ladder logic, hardware configuration)
- Good understanding of production system architectures, SCADA environments, and industrial networks
- Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Profinet, S7, OPC-UA, or MQTT
- Programming skills beyond PLC (e.g. Python or other object-oriented languages), enabling integration between OT and IT domains While the role requires hands-on experience from real industrial automation environments, we value curiosity, collaboration, and learning ability just as much as technical depth. If you don’t meet every item but believe you can grow into the role, we still encourage you to apply — the right mindset and potential matter most.
Languages: English required; Swedish is a plus.
