Role Summary

Do you want to join the lead in technology development, be part of a world-class company and contribute to internal combustion engine development where changes truly make an impact? Then this opportunity is for you.
Even with new technologies like electrification on the rise, the majority of our fleet still relies on internal combustion engines — meaning every improvement in fuel efficiency and emissions really counts. With this role, you’ll have the opportunity to make a genuine difference. If you succeed, we succeed — let’s take the next step into the future together.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and improve engine control functions for variable valve control systems
  • Drive changes from idea to implementation, including software development in embedded systems
  • Perform testing and calibration in engine test cells and vehicles
  • Analyze results, follow up on deviations from tests, fleets and customer data
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and international teams within the Traton group
  • Work with new technologies such as artificial neural networks and advanced control theory
  • Participate in concept development, documentation and verification
  • Review and discuss solutions with team members; support each other in code and problem-solving

Who You Are

You are a responsible, open-minded, and curious team player who enjoys solving problems and tackling challenges with enthusiasm. You communicate fluently in English, both spoken and written, and thrive in a collaborative environment. You’re equally comfortable with analytical tasks and hands-on testing, and you enjoy a balance between practical and theoretical work.

You likely have experience working with control systems — perhaps as a software developer, tester, or function owner — and now you’re ready to grow your skills further in an international and innovative setting.

You have a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in embedded systems, mechatronics, physics or a similar field. However, we place just as much emphasis on mindset and personality as formal qualifications.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds – your unique experience and perspectives is valuable to us.

This Is Us

We are the Engine Variable Valve Control team – an agile and diverse group within the Engine Control Systems department, responsible for the development of control systems for combustion engines used in powertrains across the Traton Group. Our team members come from different backgrounds and corners of the world, and we value inclusion, collaboration, and having fun at work.

A major part of the technological shift happens in the gas exchange system – our area of responsibility. By precisely controlling gas flow via internal valves, we aim to improve fuel efficiency and driver experience. We constantly explore new technologies and thrive in an environment where flexibility meets responsibility.

As part of our team, you will own and drive change, contribute to innovation, and work across the full development cycle. We support each other, review code together, and believe strongly in knowledge sharing and teamwork.

We Offer

We offer a dynamic, flexible workplace with hybrid work options, including Scania Sergel and Midway hubs. With a structured development plan and courses, TRATON Group R&D supports your career growth both locally and internationally. Benefits include wellness allowance, TRATON result bonus, flexible hours, and company car leasing. We also hosts events for employees and their families, and Stockholm residents enjoy direct access to Södertälje via Scania Job express buses.
