Thesis work 30 hp - Modelling air suspension spring physics for model in loop simulation setup
Introduction:
Thesis work is an excellent way to get closer to Traton Group and build relationships for the future. Many of today's employees began their Traton journey with their degree project.
Background:
TRATON is a group of strong brands, including Scania, MAN and International, with a shared mission: to create the future of sustainable transport solutions.
Commercial vehicles have air suspension which is electronically controlled to adjust chassis height and/or changing the load distribution among axles for drivability or manoeuvrability and this is done by inflating or deflating air spring/bellows. These air springs are made of rubber and thus have non-linear physics which affects overall software controllability of level and load distribution adjustment of the chassis. Moreover, thermodynamic effects are also prevalent due to inflating and deflating the bellows which introduces more non-linearity in the system.
Objective/ Job description:
The objective of the thesis work is to model the physics of air spring/bellow for our model-in-loop setup and capture the above mentioned non-linear nature of air bellows. In addition, validate the model with data collected from a test vehicle and correlate the results.
Education/program/focus:
Current MSc in Engineering or similar within mechatronics or robotics programmes with skills in multi body physics simulation, and programming in MATLAB/Simulink, python or similar. Prior experience in working with pneumatic systems and non-linear controls is a plus.
