Thesis work Innovative use of prototypes and optimization of processes to decrease development time
Background
With time to market getting more and more important for some projects the development time is decreasing. This means that when we need prototypes for testing long lead time for ordering prototypes can be a problem. The risk is that we won't have enough time to order prototypes and have to rely only on digital testing or that we will test old designs when the prototypes finally arrive.
Assignment description and objective
There must be a lot of innovative ideas that we could use to get the right design and quality in prototypes that will fulfil the test need. If it is optimizing the processes, new innovative designs or something completely different is up to you.
You will do a pre study to get to know how the processes are working today within the design group but also the cross functions as procurement, production, simulation and testing. What quality is needed to get a reliable test result? Which are the limitations needed to take in consideration?
In the project you will make suggestions of possible ways to shorten the lead time. Both within the processes at Scania and/or in the design. Order and test ideas for real Scania parts. Depending on the solution and timing this could be done for prototypes needed in a running project.
Summary and conclusion of how well the ideas worked and a suggestion of how we can continue working with this at Scania/Traton.
As the master thesis project will be held from a design group the main focus should preferably be from that perspective. It is also possible to adjust the thesis description to better fit your interests as long as the main questions will be investigated.
