Your Mission

As a thesis/internship student in Large
-Scale Automation, you will be part of our digitalization and industrial automation initiatives. You will examine how automation technologies, such as cobots and industrial robots, can improve ergonomics, quality, efficiency across the production assembly chain.

You will analyze existing and future processes, identify high
-potential automation opportunities, and deliver insights that help automate Scania Zwolle in a structured, scalable, and sustainable way. Your work will support both strategic development and practical engineering, making this assignment suitable for research-oriented students as well as those aiming for hands-on applied engineering experience.

Scope of the Assignment

You will explore the complete production flow
; pre-assembly, main assembly, logistics, to identify automation opportunities using robotics and intelligent tools.

Focus areas include:

  • Ergonomically heavy or repetitive tasks
  • Precision-critical workflows
  • Flow-critical stations and bottlenecks
  • Material handling and intralogistics
  • Cobot vs. industrial robot suitability

Deliverables

You will produce a set of clear, actionable results:

  • An automation opportunity map for selected production areas
  • An impact vs. implementation effort matrix
  • A prioritized list of automation concepts (5 recommendations)
  • Cost and ROI estimations for key automation cases
  • A comparison of industrial robot vs cobots feasibility per recommended task

These deliverables can be tailored to 20 EC or 40 EC requirements.

Targets

By the end of your assignment, you will deliver:
  • A complete overview - map of automation potential across defined production processes
  • Prioritized automation cases as a decision-base for future investments
